This means that the addition of this state of the art technology will enable us to visibly show our clients their skin on a deeper level. It enables our therapists to determine the proper treatments and daily skin care regimens specific to their needs.
The SkinScope LED builds on the tradition of the wood’s lamp science while incorporating a new, more precise UV-light visibility.
While some skin conditions are visible in everyday light, some are only visible under UV light which highlights sub-surface skin damage.
The Skinscope LED is designed to help assess patients’ skin through the use of two light modes: a simulated daylight mode for reviewing visible concerns, and a LED-UV light mode for identifying underlying damage.

How does it work?
The SkinScope LED includes two light modes: Daylight, and LED-UV, and allows for the use of any smartphone to document the consultation with a universal smartphone adapter. While some skin concerns and imperfections are visible in everyday light, some are only visible under UV light, which highlights damage beneath the skin’s surface by detecting skin’s fluorescence.
Allows for the clear illumination of visible skin concerns, including:

LED-UV light detects fluorescence in skin for clearer identification of skin concerns and conditions not visible in everyday light.
While healthy skin reflects back UV light creating a blue glow, the existence of unwanted pigmentation, poor desquamation, dehydration, congested pores, and skin oiliness is reflected in a variety of fluorescent shades.
The SkinScope LED has two light modes: simulated Daylight mode for reviewing visible skin conditions and concerns, and a LED-UV light mode for reviewing skin fluorescence (emitted at 320- 365nm). Solid-state UV emitters, dispersed by six polished chrome mirrors, produce the Daylight and LED-UV lights.
What does it show?
The simulated Daylight mode allows for the clear illumination of ‘visible’ concerns to the patient and aesthetician.
The LED-UV mode illuminates sub-surface imperfections visualized by the fluorescence of the skin. This exposes concerns that may be faintly visible in daylight but is emphasized under UV light. While healthy skin reflects back UV light creating a blue glow, melanin in the skin absorbs the light showing as dark spots on the surface of the face. Similarly, congested pores give off pink or orange fluorescence; oily skin is visible in a yellow color, and dry flaky skin shines as bright white. Large patches of darker blue indicate areas of thinner, dehydrated skin.
What happens on your appointment day?
You will need to come in for your appointment with a makeup-free face. Once sat down you will insert your head into the SkinScope machine under the daylight and LED settings. A photograph is then taken in both diagnostic modes, which can help track the progress of clinical skincare and treatments over time. Having these photos also helps us to show you before and after photos after the required treatments have been performed.
