What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive and painless cosmetic skin procedure offered at our Colchester, Essex clinic. The treatment uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hairs from your face. It is also referred to as microplaning or blading.

By removing dead skin cells and hair, Dermaplaning can help reduce the appearance of acne scars or other skin imperfections by revealing newer, healthier and undamaged skin. In turn, this makes your skin appear smoother, brighter and younger. Although this does not help the ageing process, the treatment offers immediate results, making it the perfect pre-event facial.

Dermaplaning facials aim to make your skin’s surface smooth, youthful, and radiant. This treatment also helps to reduce the appearance of deep scarring from acne and uneven pockmarks on your skin. It also removes peach fuzz, the short, fine, and soft hairs on your face.
How Does Dermaplaning Work?

Dermaplaning is a highly effective physical exfoliation method, which uses a surgical scalpel to shave away facial peach fuzz hairs and dead surface skin cells. This process stimulates your skin’s natural regeneration mechanisms, leaving a rejuvenated and healthy looking complexion.

Despite the Dermaplaning procedure being quick and painless, with no downtime, patients see amazing results after their treatment. Therefore everyone is turning to dermaplaning as a regular skin restoration treatment. Dermaplaning can have benefits for those who suffer from acne scarring and hyperpigmentation.

Following your treatment, it is important to take good care of your skin so that you can maintain your excellent results. If you follow your Therapists post-treatment advice carefully then you are likely to achieve better and longer lasting results

Dermaplaning and chemical peels: Shave before face mask

Shaving your face using dermaplaning treatment clears away the surface layers of your skin. This enables better absorption of facials, skincare products and serums and chemical peels. Combining dermaplaning with a chemical peel straight after will enable your skin to more deeply absorb the chemicals placed on it. This will ensure that you get better results from your peel. It can also work out more cost effective combining the two treatments, as many MedSpas offer reduced prices when booking double treatments.

How Long Does Dermaplaning Results Last?

Dermaplaning is a popular skincare treatment that is offered at The Mind Body & Soul in Colchester, Essex. This treatment involves the use of a special tool to gently exfoliate the skin and remove fine vellus hair (also known as "peach fuzz"). Dermaplaning can help to improve the texture and tone of the skin, giving it a more youthful and radiant appearance.

One of the main questions that our clients have about dermaplaning is how long the results will last. The length of time that dermaplaning results last can vary from person to person, depending on various factors such as skin type, age, and lifestyle.

In general, dermaplaning results can last for several weeks. However, it is important to remember that dermaplaning is a temporary treatment and the effects will eventually fade. To maintain the benefits of dermaplaning, it is recommended to have the treatment performed every 4-6 weeks.

DERMAPLANING

What Are The Benefits Of Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning gets rid of dead skin cells, triggering the development of new cells that help rejuvenate the skin. Post treatment, skin tone is evened out, and hyperpigmentation, the dark spots that can appear on the skin, start to ease. The skin then takes on a fresher and brighter appearance, as rough spots on the surface of the skin are smoothed over, and the complexion is brightened.

After Dermaplaning, your cosmetics and skin care products will also go on much more easily once your face is clear of peach fuzz and dead skin cells. This treatment also serves as a deep cleaning facial that removes dirt, oils, and dead skin cells from the pores. Once your pores have been cleaned, they’ll appear smaller in size. This contributes to a more youthful look since pore size is directly related to age related skin concerns.

Dermaplaning Before & After At The Mind Body & Soul

Before Dermaplaning

At your initial Dermaplaning consultation, our aestheticians will examine your skin to devise a treatment plan and decide if this is the best treatment for you. Depending on your skin concerns, we may recommend Dermaplaning regular treatments to achieve your desired results.

For around 2-3 weeks before treatment, you must avoid botox, filler, and any topical fake tan. We also advise that you stop using any retinols, acids or manual exfoliants for around 48 hours before treatment.

If you are currently suffering from an active acne flare-up, you may need to reschedule your appointment to avoid further irritating your skin or tearing your skin’s surface. If possible, we recommend avoiding direct sun exposure the week before your appointment. Sun damage, specifically sunburn, could compromise your skin’s health and make the treatment painful.

During Dermaplaning

Due to their minimally invasive nature, Dermaplaning treatments can be very relaxing. At the start of your session, your aesthetician will begin by prepping your skin with products tailored to its needs. These products will help to gently cleanse your face and remove bacteria and other germs from its surface.

Following this, an aesthetician will glide a surgical scalpel across your skin. The scalpel will be held at a specific angle to remove fine hairs and scrape away dead skin and embedded oil, which makes your skin look dull and fine lines more visible.

Blade movements are typically fast and feathery but highly controlled, with just enough pressure to remove that superficial layer of debris without harming the healthy skin underneath.
Your treatment typically will move from your forehead down your cheeks to your chin, taking care to avoid your nose, lips, and eyebrows.

After Dermaplaning

After completing your Dermaplaning treatment, your aesthetician will recommend which aftercare products can be applied to the skin, including an SPF. You may feel slight itchiness or a stinging sensation for the first 24 hours following your procedure. However, aftercare products will help to minimise redness and irritation whilst working to rehydrate your skin.

Please avoid wearing makeup, contact with chlorine, and heavy workouts for around 24-48 hours post treatment. Avoid Dermal Fillers or Botox for 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the area, and facial waxing for 7 days.

While a single session can yield great results, most patients opt for ongoing Dermaplaning treatments. Dermaplaning can be carried out before facials and other treatments or on its own to maintain fresh, soft, smooth skin.
